The official birthday for #2 is tomorrow, so I had to make cake #2 for the big day this evening. He requested a giant cookie cake, and loved the idea of a dinosaur when I suggested it. Here's all you would need to make one for yourself.
Mix up one batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. I used the traditional Toll House Cookie recipe, which can be found here at Allrecipes.com. Next, spread the dough out evenly over what I believe is a 16" pizza pan (pretty big one). Cook per recipe directions. Let the cookie cool completely before decorating.
Now you can be as creative as your heart desires. I used another can of clearance frosting (under $.50) to cover the cookie in a fairly thin layer. Then, I used the lid from the frosting can to outline the dinosaur head by gently pressing it into the frosting. I used a regular old butter knife to map out the body in frosting as well. Finally, I intended to outline and then fill in the entire dinosaur with a ready to use cookie icing. However, I quickly realized that it was not going to spread out to fill in any spaces, as the icing claimed. So, I improvised by filling in a design instead.
It wasn't exactly what I had envisioned, but it works. Thank goodness my 5 year-old is a very grateful little man who isn't too picky : ) I can't wait to try this again, as making the cookie was so incredibly easy!
